Pet health care insurance has been around for at least fifteen to twenty years and some people still don’t know it exists. Being able to obtain pet health care insurance is limited and the policies have restrictions that are prohibitive in many cases.
Some pet insurance companies have changed over the last few years and some people would say for the better. In the past, many levels of care for the pet cost too much money with the insurance the pet had, but not everyone will agree.
Medicines and care were one of the few types of health care professionals financially based on insurance. When a human falls ill, we have access to insurance to make it easier to pay our bills; but when an animal falls ill most people pay out of their pockets for the bill.
Take Preventative and Routine Care Of Your Pets
When animals are a part of our family, we want to make sure we take preventative and routine care of them. We run them to the vet in cases of emergency and with disease conditions. We now even take care of not only the medical, but the surgical and dental care for our pets.
Because of the fact we rush our animals to the vet like we would our own children; insurance premiums can save you a lot of money. They work much like human policies and if you have a precondition situation with your pet, you may not be approved for the policy or pay higher premiums.
Health Insurance Premiums for Pets Are Treated the Same as Adults
Pet health care insurance is handled the same way as health insurance for humans. You will have to pay an annual premium and the deductions required on the bill before they will pay for any additional care. There are also different coverage plans based on what options you choose for your pets care. Your pet’s policy will also be based on the species of your pet, the age and any pre-existing conditions. Sometimes the insurance providers will even want to know the lifestyle of the pet and will ask about whether they are kept indoors or outdoors.
Pet health care insurance companies also take into effect the age of your pet as part of the policy process. You will pay less on your rates if your pet is insured at 6-8 weeks of age or you can pay more if your pet is older. Some insurance companies will deny your pet based on answers provided, and some will give insurance regardless of pre-existing conditions with your pet.
